Alpha is a free 11-week, plus one day away, course. The course is a series of 2-hour interactive sessions where discussion of life and the Christian faith is presented in an informal, fun, and friendly environment.
Is there more to life than this?
Who is Jesus?
Why and how do I pray?
Alpha looks at these and many other questions, providing a practical introduction to the Christian faith.
What to Expect
Food
Each session starts with a meal. Whether it's friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It's no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it's a great way to encourage community and to get to know each other.
Talk
Then there is a talk. Each talk is a video, generally thirty minutes long, that is designed to engage and inspire conversation. These talks explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as those listed above.
Discussion
Probably the most important part of each session is the chance to share thoughts and ideas by discussing the topic in small groups. There is no obligation to say anything, and there's nothing you can't say. It's an opportunity to hear from others and to contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly, and open environment.
When is Alpha?
St. Paul Catholic Church offers the Alpha course a few times during the year. Session Dates to be announced.
