Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) provides a sacred space, called an Atrium, for the faith formation of children from ages 3 to 12 (6th grade). The focus of the program is to deepen the child's existing relationship with God; to encourage the formation of a personal prayer life; to participate fully in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Catholic Church; and to develop a deeper understanding of Catholic identity and tradition. CGS utilizes the educational principles of Maria Montessori.
CGS is based on the belief that God and the child are already in a relationship and provides a place where that relationship can grow through the assistance of trained catechists. Specially designed materials and inspiring presentations help children explore areas of faith formation appropriate to their developmental age.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd will resume on the 2nd Sunday of the month at the 9:00 am Mass on February 12th. CGS will resume at the 11:00 am Mass on the third Sundays of the month on February 19th.

Families are invited to gather in front of the altar for prayer, song and activities, which vary throughout the liturgical season.

Our Parish School of Religion (PSR) is designed for youth in grades K-8. Sessions are on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, throughout the school year. During PSR, younger students may work in the Atrium with their catechists. Curriculum for grades 1 & 2, and 7 & 8 includes preparation for receiving Sacraments.
Our PSR catechists are individuals who have the ability to teach, lead group discussions, conduct faith sharing, have a love and respect for children, a basic understanding of Catholic teaching, scripture, and tradition, a desire to grow and share faith, and a willingness to share their own faith experience.

In the Toledo Diocese, children celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion when they reach the “age of reason,” typically in 2nd grade. The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated when children are in “the 8th grade through sixteen years of age.” These sacraments are an extension of our baptism as part of the Sacraments of Initiation and are celebrated with all parish children. Formation is provided for children and their families. Children ages 7-17 who have not been baptized join the Church through the Order of Christian Inittiation of Children (OCIC) program.
